The SiGMA Foundation, the charitable arm of the SiGMA Group, continues to grow its footprint across the globe, with projects spanning South America, Asia, and Africa. In a recent interview at SiGMA Asia this past June, Jessie Busuttil, Operations Manager at the SiGMA Foundation, outlined the organisation’s mission to give back to the communities where SiGMA operates.

When outlining the ethos of the Foundation Jessie emphasised, “It’s been running for the last six years… basically aims to give back to the community and now, more so with the expansion of the SiGMA events worldwide, we’ve been making it our mission to give back into those communities where we are also active with the summit.”

Expansion and impact

Jessie described this year as one of the Foundation’s busiest years to date, with “back-to-back events and expeditions.” The team has been active in South America, Asia and soon Africa. “We have been in South America over a whole month just last April. We have also been of course here in Asia with some of our projects actually here in the Philippines. And later on this year, we will be inaugurating projects also in Africa. We’re working in new territories as well.”

These initiatives span a wide range of causes. From healthcare support in South America, such as the expansion of hospitals in Peru, to clean water and clean stove projects in Guatemala and the construction of community centres for indigenous people in the Philippines, the SiGMA Foundation is taking a holistic approach to sustainable development.

The global mission

When asked how the Foundation chooses which communities to support, Jessie explained that the team relies on trusted local contacts, “We have a number of close contacts whom we trust to administer and fulfill the project. Wherever we have people that we know believe in the cause just as much as we do, we will have faith in them. Of course, this always aligns with our mission.”

That mission goes further than simply delivering resources. “Our mission as SiGMA Foundation is to provide sustainability to communities,” Jessie said. “Not to just give them the end goal of what they need but to also give them tools in which they can be able to support themselves.”

Fundraising with purpose

The SiGMA Foundation’s projects are powered by fundraising initiatives that go beyond traditional channels. In its early years, the Foundation operated largely independently from SiGMA events, with funds generated through adventurous expeditions such as mountain climbs. “Within those teams there would be fundraising between themselves, all working towards one goal of one of our projects,” explained Busuttil.

However, with SiGMA’s global expansion, the Foundation has been able to tap into a wider network of donors and industry partners. “We’ve been really lucky in securing more donors and supporters through these industries, which has proven to become a big powerhouse for us now as a foundation enabling us to go so much further,” she said.

The Foundation also benefits from the visibility and platform that SiGMA events bring. “As you know the SiGMA Group is so capable of bringing great visibility to brands, and also brands who support the foundation gain further visibility through the SiGMA event. So, it’s a win-win for us being part of the SiGMA Group.”

A vision for the future

The SiGMA Foundation’s work reflects a philosophy of sustainability, empowerment, and global responsibility. By embedding its projects into the heart of communities and working with trusted partners, the Foundation ensures that its contributions create long-term impact rather than short-term fixes.

As Busuttil emphasised, the goal is not just to provide aid but to empower communities to thrive independently. With its expanding reach across continents, the Foundation is set to continue playing a crucial role in transforming lives worldwide.
