Brazil’s iGaming market is booming, but many operators are stuck in a comfort zone. And it’s starting to cost them.
While local brands lean heavily on casinos, global leaders are doubling down on sports betting.
The reason is simple: sportsbooks drive deeper engagement and stronger retention.
Let’s look at the numbers. At the end of 2025, the licensed betting sector in Brazil generated R$37 billion in GGR ($7.5 billion USD), marking the first full year of a regulated online market.
Moreover, according to H2-OpenBet, in 2025, sports betting accounted for 55% of online betting and gaming GGR. In other words, sports betting is the largest single vertical in the market.
In that context, treating a sportsbook as secondary isn’t conservative. It’s a missed commercial opportunity.
At BiS SiGMA South America, Altenar is putting that question directly to operators. Why is a sportsbook still not at the centre of your strategy?
Co-Founder and COO Dinos Stranomitis will address this during the panel “The Undefined Value of Sports Betting in Brazil.” The message is clear: future leaders will be those who scale beyond the casino by embracing sportsbooks.
Altenar’s expansion in São Paulo reflects where the market is heading. Toward balanced, data-driven operations where a sportsbook plays a central role.
Luana Monje, Sales Executive at Altenar Brazil, commented:
“The sports betting market is evolving faster than many operators are ready to admit. Operators who act now on sportsbooks will lead in retention and lifetime value.
The real risk is waiting too long to take it seriously.”
