Getting around Colombo is easy when you know how. Now heading into our second event in the city, we’ve identified all the best ways to travel, making sure you don’t need to miss a moment.
Public transportation
Like any city, traffic can be challenging. Luckily Colombo is a city where transport is cheap, easy to use, and readily available. If you want to move like a local, buses are the way to go, if somewhat crowded. Avoid that by taking a private tuk-tuk instead. These three-wheelers can be found on ride-hailing apps or hailed in the street, and make for a fun experience when it comes to short distances.
Alternatively, there’s always services like Uber and PickMe if you prefer a more comfortable ride. And with high humidity, you’ll be glad of the AC.

- Travel time: Usually 35–60 minutes depending on traffic.

Travel Guidelines
The first week of December in Colombo is typically on the hot and humid side. Expect some short tropical showers and thunderstorms, with humidity at its peak in the evenings. That being said, most days are sunny, with just short intervals of rain – if at all. Pack for unpredictability – light, breathable layers that can accommodate both warm outsides and cooler, air conditioned hotels.
Many of SiGMA’s networking events, such as our Awards ceremony and cultural activities, also advise a dress code. In some cases, such as pre-event expo visits, the dress code is mandatory for your safety. Please follow the agenda for more detailed information.
Sri Lanka generally uses two types of plugs: Type D and G (which is the same as those used in the UK.). Although many hotels and venues can provide adaptors, you’re safest bringing your own. Alternatively, delivery apps can get one to you fast if need be.
The Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the official currency. You can use your credit cards pretty much everywhere, but we do recommend small amounts of local currency to cover any small purchase needs and Tuktuk rides. Be sure to use ATMs in secure locations, such as the City of Dreams mall. Don’t forget to inform your bank of planned travel to avoid card blocks.
- As in any big city, you should be vigilant of your surroundings and wary of pickpockets, that said, Colombo is considered safe. Always use official taxi apps, like Uber, and never accept rides from unmarked cabs or strangers. Keep your bag close and make sure no valuables are left in easy to reach pockets.

Yes. There is free WiFi available to all delegates and exhibitors over the three-day summit. It is recommended to use a downloadable travel eSIM provider. SiGMA is partnered with ESIMATIC – and has secured advantageous discounts for delegates who download it.

If you’ve misplaced something, your first port of call should be the Info Desk, where you can ask for Lost and Found. Find it clearly marked on all floorplans.
