Travel Guidelines

Back by popular demand for a second round, SiGMA World returns to Rome for another super-charged edition. Taking advantage of the Fiera Roma’s sprawling venue, the summit is back with an expanded floor plan that delivers more of everything and then some. We’ve added new halls, more conference stages, a padel court and a GoKart arena to host the very first SiGMA Grand Prix. With so much to see, we’ve created a handy guide to help you get around.

Getting to the venue: Fiera Roma

Fiera Roma is one of Europe’s largest and most important exhibition centers, renowned for its futuristic design. Situated within a multifunctional district, it features 10 state-of-the-art, pillar-free pavilions spanning 150,000 square meters of indoor space and 40,000 square meters outdoors. The Conference Center includes 13 meeting rooms accommodating up to 3,000 attendees, while the entire venue hosts up to 60,000 participants. In addition, the venue can also accommodate 7000 parking spaces.

If you’re staying in Rome’s stunning city centre, our recommendation is to get a train. Reasonably priced, generally on time, and incredibly simple to use. This is your best bet all week. Even more so because the trains actually go directly to the Fiera Roma’s North Entrance.

The FL1 train:

The FL1 runs through four stations before stopping at the Fiera Roma.

Top tip: Open Google Maps and enter Fiera Roma as your destination and let it route you to the nearest Fl1 station. Make sure you board the Fl1 train heading towards Fiumicino Airport.

The Fl1 route:

Roma Tiburtina → Roma Tuscolana → Roma Ostiense → Roma Trastevere → Fiera di Roma before continuing toward Fiumicino Airport.

How to get to an Fl1 train

If you’re staying somewhere in central Rome, you may need to take either the Metro, bus or taxi first to reach a station where the FL1 train stops.

Here are a few of the most common routes:

  • Staying near Termini → usually Metro to Ostiense/Piramide, then FL1.
  • Staying near Colosseum → usually Metro B to Piramide/Ostiense, then FL1.
  • Staying near Trastevere → Roma Trastevere directly.
  • Staying near Vatican/Prati → often Roma Trastevere is convenient.
  • Staying near Tiburtina → Roma Tiburtina directly.

Coming straight from Fiumicinol Airport (FCO)?

Take the FL1 train directly from the airport itself. Ticket machines are everywhere, just follow the signs in the airport to the train station, grab a ticket from any touchscreen ticket machine and hop on. Schedules are frequent, so best to buy once there in case of luggage or flight delays.

If you’re not a train person, you can also make use of a taxi. Fair warning though, the route may be short on paper, but Rome’s traffic can be a force to be reckoned with. If you’re in no hurry, this one’s for you.

Public transportation

Planning to see a bit of the city whilst in town for SiGMA World? Rome is an incredibly walkable city, with lots of the big sites walking distance from each other. Alternatively hop on and off the buses or make use of the metro and trains for longer journeys.

Get your hands on tickets through official ATAC channels, ticket machines at Metro stations, and authorised retailers such as tabacchi shops. You can also use contactless payment on supported public transport services.

Rome is also the perfect base for short day trips. Florence is just an hour and a half by train, Pompeii about two hours, and Naples just an hour to an hour and a half. Lunch in the iconic Piazza Santo Spirito and a wonder round Palazzo Vecchio? Sign us up.

Apps
In Rome, ride-hailing apps are widely used and generally considered safe options because apps verify drivers, track trips via GPS, and store ride data. Popular and safe options include Uber and itTaxi.

Don’t forget to always:

  • Match the plate number, car, and driver photo to the app
  • Avoid sharing riddles with strangers, but do use the share trip feature with colleagues and friends

General FAQs

The weather is generally mild and temperate – but can be changeable. It’s also one of Rome’s wetter months, so plan ahead for a few rainy days. Layers are advisable, especially as evenings can sometimes be cooler, whilst days lean towards warm sunshine. We also suggest bringing a light jacket or cardigan to the expo – the AC in large centres like this can be on the colder side.

Rome uses three types of plugs – Type C, which has two small round pins, Type F – featuring two larger round pins, and type L, the Italian three-round-pin plug. For guests flying in, an adapter is definitely needed.

The Euro is the official currency. You can use your credit cards almost everywhere,, but we do recommend some cash to cover any small purchase needs, especially if you plan to visit markets or try street food. Be sure to use ATMs in secure locations. Don’t forget to inform your bank of planned travel to avoid card blocks.

Yes, Rome is considered to be a safe location for tourists. Pickpocketing can be an issue, especially on crowded tourist attractions or on busy public transport. Stay alert, as you would in any big city. Always use official taxi apps, and never accept rides from unmarked cabs or strangers. Keep your bag close and make sure no valuables are left in easy to reach pockets.

Usually none are needed for Rome. Check official guidelines and recommendations with your healthcare providers. It’s generally a good idea to ensure routine vaccinations are up to date – particularly, Tetanus, diphtheria, and polio.
