Getting around Manila is easy when you know how, so we’ve worked out all the best ways to get you to our events on time and hassle free.
Public transportation
In Manila, ride-hailing apps are widely used and generally considered safe options because apps verify drivers, track trips via GPS, and store ride data. Popular and safe options include Grab and inDrive. If you’re up for something a little more exciting and want to avoid heavy traffic, then Angkas, JoyRide and Move It are motorcycle taxi apps that provide great alternatives for rush hour.
Don’t forget to always:
- Match the plate number, car, and driver photo to the app
- Avoid sharing riddles with strangers, but do use the share trip feature with colleagues and friends
- Wear a helmet if taking a motorcycle taxi
Meanwhile, jeepneys are everywhere. These colourful open air minibuses are great options if you want to get a feel for the local culture. With no formal stops on the route, you can hop on and off pretty much anywhere. You should be aware though that the fare is paid with cash – often around 12 to 15 Pesos. The buses can also be hot and crowded, so might be worth saving this experience for a day where your schedule feels more relaxed. Alternatively, the traditional sidecar tricycles can take you short distances.
The Metro Rail
Running through key parts of Metro Manila, the rail transit lines can be a fast way to beat traffic, and with cheap fairs and easy to navigate systems, the metro could be a solid option.
The SMX Convention Center, Manila
SMX is right beside SM Mall of Asia (MOA) in Pasay. Almost all public transport options will drop you at MOA, from where you can then walk 5–10 minutes to SMX.

General FAQs
Monsoon season is just around the corner, so although you shouldn’t expect any intense weather in early June, do be prepared for a mix of humidity, heat, and a few surprise showers. Temperatures are often in the high 20’s, so pack light summer clothes in breathable fabrics like cotton and linen. High-factor sunscreen, hats and sunglasses are non-negotiables.
Many of SiGMA’s networking events, such as our Awards ceremony and cultural activities, also advise a dress code. In some cases, such as pre-event expo visits, the dress code is mandatory for your safety. Please follow the agenda for more detailed information.
The Philippines use three types of plugs – Type A, which has two flat parallel pins, Type B, which in addition to the two flat pins also has a round grounding pin, and Type C – which has two round pins. A and B are the most commonly found, but many will also take Type C. So, if you’re from the US or Canada – you’re sorted, but everyone else should bring an adaptor, as not all hotels and venues will be able to provide one.
The Philippine Peso (₱) is the official currency. You can use your credit cards most places, but we do recommend some cash to cover any small purchase needs. Be sure to use ATMs in secure locations. Don’t forget to inform your bank of planned travel to avoid card blocks.
Manila is considered safe for travellers, and violent crime is uncommon. As in any big city, you should be vigilant of your surroundings, especially at night. It’s advisable not to wear flashy or expensive jewelry, and to use your mobile phones discreetly when out in the street. Always use official taxi apps, and never accept rides from unmarked cabs or strangers. Keep your bag close and make sure no valuables are left in easy to reach pockets.

Yes. There is free WiFi available to all delegates and exhibitors over the three-day summit. As all operators require ID to activate SIM cards, it is recommended to use a downloadable travel eSIM provider. SiGMA is partnered with ESIMATIC – and has secured advantageous discounts for delegates who download it.
Usually none are needed for Manila, but some may be advisable if you plan to travel outside of the city to more rural areas. Check official guidelines and recommendations with your healthcare providers. While mosquito numbers are low in city areas, it’s advisable to carry a good repellent just in case.
If you’ve misplaced something, your first port of call should be the Info desk, where you can ask for Lost and Found. Find it clearly marked on all floorplans.
