Plan Your Trip I SiGMA North America
01 – 03 SEP 2026
Travel Guidelines
Freshly added to the event circuit, Mexico City launches this year. Like us, this may be your first time visiting, so we’ve put together a quick guide with all the essentials. From transport to dress codes, navigating SiGMA North America will be a breeze.
Getting to the venue: Centro Banamex, Mexico City
Getting to the venue: Centro Banamex, Mexico City
One of the largest convention and exhibition venues in Mexico City the Banamex Center is located in the Miguel Hidalgo district – right besides the Hipódromo de las Américas racetrack. There’s easy highway access from northern and western parts of the city, with the venue sitting about 20 to 30 minutes outside of central city areas.
An Uber will do the trick, especially if you’re staying in the Polanco, Roma, or Condesa area, but if you’re considering public transport, choose to arrive by Metro. The closest station is the Cuatro Caminos (Line 2). You’ll still need to take a short taxi ride to the venue from there.
Coming straight from Mexico City International Airport (MEX)?
Good to know: Only authorised airport taxi companies are permitted to pick up passengers directly from airport taxi ranks. If you’re planning to grab a ride-hailing service like Uber directly, they recommend you head to the designated pick up spot at Gate 8 (first floor) – find it just outside Starbucks. Alternatively, take the Metro from Terminal Aérea station. Transfer towards Line 2, and exit at Cuatro Caminos, before completing the trip with a short Uber ride.
Top tip: Always select the main entrance of Centro Banamex as your pickup point when possible.
Public transportation
Getting around Mexico is easy when you know how. It’s also wallet friendly – to simplify things you can use one rechargeable transit card that covers most systems – the Tarjeta de Movilidad Integrada. Where to get your hands on it? You can buy the card and top it up in most stations.
The Metro Subway
12 lines cover most of the city, making it perfect for longer distance travel. And because stations are organised by colour and symbols, non Spanish speakers will still find it easy to navigate. It does get crowded though, so aim to avoid rush hour if you can.
Alternatively there’s the Metrobús and Trolebús. Slightly more accessible than the metro, elevated above ground stations and dedicated bus lanes make these pretty convenient to use. You’ll need a prepaid ticket.

Cable Cars
If sleek and modern isn’t your vibe and you’re in the mood for a little whimsy, you could consider hopping on board a cable car. These gondola-style cars are great for conquering hilly neighbourhoods outside the reach of rail and offer spectacular city views. While they might not be your most convenient option for the summit, we recommend riding one for fun at least once.
Apps
In Mexico, ride-hailing apps are widely used and generally considered safe options because apps verify drivers, track trips via GPS, and store ride data. Popular and safe options include Uber and DiDi.
Don’t forget to always:
- Match the plate number, car, and driver photo to the app
- Avoid sharing riddles with strangers, but do use the share trip feature with colleagues and friends
Departing Mexico City
It’s hard to leave a city like this, but we’ look forward to meeting again ‘ll be back next year. In the meantime, here’s a few tips and tricks to ensure your trip home is just as smooth as your event experience.
Departure Gates
The Mexico City International Airport often signposts its departure gates as Passenger Access. Keep an eye out for this as you head to your gate. Speaking of gates. Not all gate letters have their own hall and may be accessed through other halls. Our advice? Avoid playing alphabet soup and head over earlier than you would normally.
International Departures
After your security stop, there are two large terminal zones, including one marked International Departures. However, not all international flights depart from this zone, so always follow your boarding pass rather than the terminal name.

General FAQs
One of the nicest times of year to be in the city, the weather is generally mild. The only caveat? Rain showers can be pretty frequent – mostly in the afternoon or evening. And although days are pleasantly warm, the high altitude can make evenings feel cooler after sundown, so do consider packing a light jacket and a couple of long sleeves. We recommend light, thin layers to take you from day to night.
Many of SiGMA’s networking events, such as our Awards ceremony and cultural activities, also advise a dress code. In some cases, such as pre-event expo visits, the dress code is mandatory for your safety. Please follow the agenda for more detailed information.
Mexico uses two types of plugs – Type A, which has two flat parallel pins and Type B, which in addition to the two flat pins also has a round grounding pin. If you’re from the US or Canada your own plus should work, for guests flying in from Europe, an adapter is definitely needed.
The Mexican Peso is the official currency. You can use your credit cards most places, but we do recommend some cash to cover any small purchase needs, especially if you plan to visit markets, use the Metro or try street food. Be sure to use ATMs in secure locations. Don’t forget to inform your bank of planned travel to avoid card blocks.
Mexico City is considered safe for travellers, but stay sharp, as you would in any big city. You should be vigilant of your surroundings, especially at night. It’s advisable not to wear flashy or expensive jewelry, and to use your mobile phones discreetly when out in the street. Always use official taxi apps, and never accept rides from unmarked cabs or strangers. Keep your bag close and make sure no valuables are left in easy to reach pockets.

Usually none are needed for Mexico City, but some may be advisable if you plan to travel outside of the city to more rural areas. Check official guidelines and recommendations with your healthcare providers. While mosquito numbers are low in city areas, it’s advisable to carry a good repellent just in case.
