The Botswana Gambling Authority has appointed Tshepang Magang as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), with immediate effect. The Board said the appointment reflects its confidence in her leadership, financial expertise and long experience within the organisation. Magang takes on the role after serving in several senior positions at the Authority, including Acting Chief Financial Officer.
Experienced finance leader takes top role
Magang brings more than 15 years of experience in finance, auditing, corporate governance, strategic planning, risk management and regulatory compliance. The Board said her appointment supports the Authority’s efforts to strengthen its long term financial sustainability as Botswana’s gambling sector continues to develop.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from the European Business University of Luxembourg. She is also a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (FCCA) and a Fellow Certified Professional Accountant (FCPA).
Since joining the Gambling Authority, Magang has held several key leadership positions. She has served as Internal Audit Manager, Financial Planning Manager and Acting Chief Financial Officer. During this time, she gained experience in financial stewardship, corporate governance, strategic resource allocation, revenue assurance, performance management and organisational sustainability.
Strong background in audit and governance
Before joining the Gambling Authority, Magang worked at KPMG, where she took part in audit and advisory assignments across a range of industries. According to the Board, this experience strengthened her knowledge of financial reporting, internal controls, enterprise risk management, governance frameworks and financial systems.
The Authority said Magang has played an important role in improving its financial governance and internal controls. She has also contributed to better revenue performance while supporting the organisation’s wider strategic transformation programme.
The Board added that her work has helped prepare the Authority to respond to the growing size and increasing complexity of Botswana’s gambling industry.
Key responsibilities as CFO
As Chief Financial Officer, Magang will join the Executive Leadership Team and provide strategic financial direction across the organisation.
Her responsibilities include overseeing financial planning and analysis, budgeting, treasury management, procurement, revenue optimisation, investment planning and risk management. She will also ensure the Authority complies with financial and regulatory requirements.
The Board said Magang will lead initiatives to strengthen the Authority’s long term financial sustainability and resilience. Her role will also focus on improving financial governance, accountability and transparency, while supporting stronger revenue collection and overall financial performance.
In addition, she will oversee efforts to introduce more digital and data driven financial management systems. These initiatives are expected to align financial strategies with the Authority’s broader organisational objectives and support informed decision making by the Board and executive management.
Supporting the regulator’s long term goals
The Gambling Authority said Magang will provide strategic financial advice to both the Board and executive management as it continues to regulate Botswana’s gambling sector.
The Board stated that her appointment supports the Authority’s objective of maintaining a transparent, responsible and sustainable regulatory framework while ensuring sound financial management.
It added that Magang’s technical expertise, leadership experience and knowledge of the organisation place her in a strong position to help the Authority deliver its regulatory mandate and strengthen its financial sustainability in the years ahead.
