UK National Lottery players will soon be able to take part in one of the world’s biggest lottery games after Allwyn confirmed that Powerball is set to launch later this month.
Although subject to final regulatory approval, the first UK Powerball draw is scheduled for 23 July, with tickets expected to go on sale from 21 July via National Lottery retailers and the National Lottery website and app.
The launch marks the first time Powerball has expanded beyond the United States, allowing UK players to enter the same jackpot pool as millions of American participants.
Each entry will cost £4 per line ($5.40), with jackpots starting at £12 million ($16.2 million). Unlike many traditional lottery games, the jackpot is uncapped, meaning it can continue growing until a winner is declared. In the US, Powerball jackpots have regularly climbed into the hundreds of millions of dollars, with the record prize exceeding $2.04 billion in 2022.
Special features for UK players
While UK players will participate in the same jackpot draw as US entrants, Allwyn has introduced a few features specifically for the UK market. One of them is an exclusive “Match 2 main numbers” prize tier, available only to UK players, which offers a fixed £8 ($11) payout.
Players who match five main numbers will receive a guaranteed £1 million ($1.41 million), while prizes across the remaining tiers will vary depending on the draw outcome and the number of winners.
According to Allwyn, introducing Powerball is intended to give players access to larger jackpot opportunities while continuing to support charitable causes funded through the National Lottery. Allwyn CEO Andria Vidler said the game offers players the opportunity to dream bigger while continuing to contribute towards thousands of community projects across the UK.
She noted that Powerball jackpots have reached extraordinary levels over the years and said the operator is preparing a major launch campaign ahead of the first draw.
Beyond the record-breaking prizes, Allwyn also expects the game to generate significant funding for public initiatives. The company estimates that Powerball could raise around £1 billion ($1.41 million) for National Lottery good causes during its first five years in the UK.

The introduction of Powerball is the latest step in Allwyn’s efforts to revamp its UK National Lottery portfolio since taking over operations. Last month, the operator updated its flagship Lotto game so that every £2 ($ 2.60) line now offers two chances to win, with the aim of offering better value to players.
