Resorts World New York City has officially started the next phase of its multi-billion-dollar expansion, breaking ground on a new hotel tower and concert arena as it continues to strengthen its position in one of the United States’ fastest-growing gaming markets.

Reportedly, a groundbreaking ceremony was held on 22 July at the property in Ozone Park, Queens, marking the beginning of construction on a 400-room hotel tower and a new entertainment venue which will mainly expand the resort’s non-gaming offerings.

The project comes just months after Resorts World expanded its gaming floor by introducing new live table games, further transforming the property into a full-scale casino destination.

Largest gaming venue in New York

Earlier this year, Resorts World expanded its casino floor to include more than 240 live table games, adding favourites such as blackjack, roulette and craps. The property also offers more than 2,500 slot machines, making it one of the largest gaming venues in New York.

The latest development follows another major milestone for the operator. Resorts World was recently among the first three casinos to receive a full commercial casino licence in New York City, reinforcing its position in the state’s regulated gaming market.

The company also operates an iGaming business primarily in New Jersey, offering online casino and sports betting, plus a mobile sportsbook in New York, under Malaysia’s Genting Group.

The property also holds a unique place in the city’s history as New York City’s first commercial casino, having operated at the former Aqueduct Racetrack site for several years before securing its full commercial licence.

The new hotel tower is expected to significantly increase the property’s accommodation capacity, while the concert arena aims to attract larger entertainment events and broaden its appeal beyond casino visitors.

By adding more hospitality and entertainment facilities, Resorts World is looking to attract tourists, business travellers and local visitors seeking a wider range of experiences.

As regulated casino markets expand, many players also compare live gaming options through a guide to top-rated online casinos with live dealers before choosing a licenced platform.

Competition intensifies in state

The investment also comes at a time when competition within New York’s gaming sector is beginning to intensify. Several new casino developments are progressing across the city following the award of commercial licences. Among them is Hard Rock Metropolitan Park, planned near Citi Field in Queens, while Bally’s is developing a casino project in the Bronx.

Unlike Resorts World, however, both projects will be entirely new developments and are expected to take several years to open. That gives Resorts World a clear advantage as it continues expanding an already operational property while potential competitors remain under construction.

The new hotel rooms and entertainment facilities are also likely to improve the property’s ability to host larger events, attract more guests and increase visitor spending across the resort. Observers note that the expansion also shows confidence in New York’s regulated gaming industry, which continues to evolve following the introduction of full commercial casino licences.

Operators are increasingly investing not only in gaming facilities but also in hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues and other attractions designed to create year-round tourism destinations. Construction on the new hotel tower and concert arena is now underway.
