The Brazil leg of the SiGMA Poker Tour has wrapped. From 03 to 06 April, players from around the world competed for a BRL 1,000,000 (around $194,000) guarantee, combining high-intensity play with premium networking.
The next destination is already confirmed. From 27 to 31 May, SPT heads to Malta, landing in St Julian’s at the iconic Portomaso Casino. The Malta stop is positioned as a special series within the tour calendar. Here is what to expect in May.
What is confirmed so far
Dates, venue and key tournament parameters have been announced. The Malta stage of the SiGMA Poker Tour will run from 27 to 31 May 2026 at Portomaso Casino. The guaranteed prize pool is €150,000, with a €250 buy-in. With an accessible entry fee, organisers expect a competitive field and a strong fight for the top prize.
The tournament will run as a five-day series. It will open with the starting flights, and as the event progresses towards the final stages, the field will narrow steadily.
SPT ambassadors confirmed for Malta include former professional footballer and Liverpool legend John Arne Riise, Norwegian poker champion Drea Karlsen, and Lucas Robinson, widely known as RobinPoker. Their presence traditionally adds a distinct tone to the stop, combining serious play with strong on-floor energy and communication.
Where the tournament will take place
One of SiGMA Poker Tour’s key criteria is the venue’s reputation. That is why the Malta choice is a natural one: Malta remains a central European hub for iGaming, and St Julian’s is one of the country’s core locations for gaming infrastructure.
Portomaso Casino is a recognised name on the international circuit. It has hosted major series such as the EPT, Malta Poker Festival and Unibet Open. The venue is expected to deliver not only a high-standard playing experience, but also convenient access to the city’s main attractions. Portomaso also hosted SiGMA Poker Tour in September 2025 with strong momentum, and organisers are clearly looking to replicate and build on that result.
Age limits and entry requirements
Portomaso Casino operates under a licence issued by the Malta Gaming Authority. Minimum age is 18 for international visitors and 25 for Maltese citizens. A valid ID document is required for entry; without it, access to the venue will be refused.
How the Brazil stage went
The Brazil stage concluded on 06 April and delivered a packed programme. Alongside the SPT Main Event with a BRL 1,000,000 guaranteed prize pool and a live-streamed final table, the schedule included multiple formats and side activities. With SiGMA Cup Championship, Mystery Bounty, Poker Night sessions, a “pizza tournament”, influencer meet-ups and more, the programme was built to keep every type of player engaged. The SiGMA Divas women’s event also stood out, drawing 82 entries. It was won by Daniela Candido Prestes, who took home BRL 7,000 (around $1,360) and secured a seat at the SPT Mexico stop.
On the very first day, organisers lowered the buy-in to BRL 2,000 (around $390) – and the change immediately boosted interest in the series. The tournament recorded 134 entries (including 34 re-entries), with 15 players advancing.
On day two, once the field reached the money, the style of play shifted noticeably. Players became more deliberate, weighing not only hand equity but also the cost of every mistake. Before play began, many studied the table draw, stack sizes and opponents’ tendencies – and the tournament gradually turned into a sharp battle for position on the way to the final table.
Finally, the SiGMA Poker Tour in Brazil reached its last day. After delivering top-class poker throughout the series, Matias Guimarães won the SPT Main Event, taking home the tournament trophy and a substantial cash prize of BRL 205,000 (around $40,000). Brazil once again reinforced the tour’s positioning as a marquee event – equally compelling for newcomers and long-time poker professionals.
