Betman, the official online sales platform for Sports Toto in South Korea, has launched a month-long responsible gambling campaign aimed at encouraging safer betting behaviour among users.
The initiative, titled “Join the responsible programme and create a healthy Toto life,” began in May and will continue until 31 May. The campaign combines educational content with self-management tools designed to help users monitor and control their betting activity.
Sports Toto is a sports promotion lottery operated under the Seoul Olympic Memorial Korea Sports Promotion Foundation, while Betman serves as its official online sales platform.
The latest campaign forms part of Betman’s ongoing monthly responsible gambling programme, which seeks to encourage customers to use sports betting products more carefully and responsibly.
Responsible gambling measures and user tools
As part of the campaign, users can watch or download an educational video titled “Understanding Responsible Purchasing,” which gives information on Sports Toto purchase techniques and responsible gaming practices.
Participants who watch or download the video receive 500 Bet Balls, Betman’s reward points system. The reward is limited to one per person. Users who download the video to their desktop are also eligible for the same benefit.
The campaign also includes three separate self-management programmes aimed at helping users assess and control their betting habits.
The “Self-Diagnosis Assessment” allows users to evaluate their own gaming tendencies and level of involvement in betting activities. The “Self-Purchase Plan” enables users to set weekly spending limits and purchase frequency in advance in an effort to reduce excessive betting behaviour.
A third feature, called the “Self-Rest Plan,” allows users to voluntarily suspend or pause their Sports Toto purchasing activity for a certain period.
According to Betman, users who complete all stages of the campaign, including the educational video and the three responsible gambling programmes, are automatically entered into a prize draw.
The rewards include vouchers for food delivery, restaurants and convenience stores. Thirty winners will receive KRW30,000 (US$22) Baedal Minjok vouchers, while 90 winners will receive KRW20,000 ($15) Goobne Chicken vouchers. Another 230 winners will receive KRW5,000 ($4) 7-Eleven vouchers.
All participants in the campaign will also receive an additional 500 Bet Balls. Winners are scheduled to be announced on 5 June.
Focus on responsible gambling measures
The campaign reflects wider efforts within South Korea’s regulated betting sector to strengthen responsible gambling measures and improve oversight of betting activity.
Sports Toto and Betman have continued to promote responsible gambling tools in recent years as authorities increase attention on gambling-related risks, including excessive betting and illegal wagering platforms.
The self-assessment and spending control features included in the latest campaign are intended to encourage users to monitor their betting behaviour before problems develop further. Voluntary cooling-off measures such as the “Self-Rest Plan” have also become more common among regulated gambling operators in several markets.
South Korea has strict gambling regulations, with most forms of gambling prohibited for local residents. Sports Toto is among the limited betting products legally available under state oversight.
Broader crackdown on illegal betting
The responsible gambling campaign also comes as South Korean authorities continue efforts to combat illegal betting activity.
Earlier this year, Korea Sports Leisure launched a separate rewards programme encouraging the public to report illegal gambling operations and match-fixing activities linked to sports betting.
Under that initiative, informants can receive financial rewards for reporting illegal betting networks, including operators involved in unlawful online gambling services. The programme also covers reports related to illegal sportsbooks and betting activities connected to sports corruption.
Authorities have increased monitoring of illegal betting platforms in recent years amid concerns over unregulated gambling activity, financial crime and risks to sports integrity.
The latest Betman campaign represents a different part of that broader effort, focusing on user education and responsible participation within South Korea’s legal betting system rather than enforcement against illegal operators.
The campaign is scheduled to run until 31 May, with winners expected to be announced on 5 June, according to information published by Betman.
