As VIP engagement becomes increasingly data-driven and globally interconnected, operators are under growing pressure to execute premium player strategies with greater precision. Identifying emerging high-value players, delivering highly personalised experiences, and retaining loyalty across borders now requires a combination of advanced analytics, operational discipline, and cultural awareness. At the same time, heightened regulatory scrutiny, responsible gaming expectations and evolving payment frameworks are reshaping how VIP programmes are designed and managed across both Europe and the Middle East.

Operational execution is increasingly central to long-term success. Operators are using advanced Customer Relationship Management systems, behavioural indicators, and real-time insights to anticipate player needs, while maintaining a balance between privacy, compliance, and trust. Changes in travel behaviour and spending patterns have further shaped VIP engagement, with players favouring longer stays, lifestyle-led experiences, and consistent recognition across destinations.

In Part One of this exclusive SiGMA News interview series, International Casino Executive & Consultant Nizar Lachtar examined how evolving VIP expectations and cross-border loyalty dynamics are shaping the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) casino market, alongside the region’s growing strategic importance for international operators.

Now, in Part Two, the discussion turns to execution. Lachtar explores effective strategies for identifying, nurturing and retaining high-value players, integrating responsible gaming into VIP service models, navigating regulatory and travel shifts, and the innovations likely to define the next generation of VIP programmes worldwide.

SiGMA News: What are the most effective strategies operators can use to identify, nurture and retain high-value players?

International Casino Executive Nizar Lachtar: Effective VIP strategies focus on early identification, highly personalised experiences, and proactive retention, combining data insights with bespoke, culturally aware engagement. Operators leverage AI-powered CRM systems and analytics to monitor play patterns, deposit habits, session lengths, and lifestyle signals, including event attendance and travel habits such as private jet movements. This allows them to identify emerging VIPs well before they reach peak engagement.

Nurturing loyalty relies on personalised, culturally aware service. Dedicated VIP hosts curate exclusive non-gaming experiences, from private yacht outings in Dubai to tailored wellness retreats in remote desert resorts or Ramadan-adjusted events, forging emotional connections that extend beyond the gaming floor.

Long-term retention comes from proactive, consistent engagement. Operators anticipate needs using real-time sentiment tools, protect privacy amid evolving Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, and reward holistic participation, including referrals and lifetime value. This trust-building approach secures player loyalty across dynamic markets and cross-border journeys.

SiGMA News: How can casinos strike the right balance between personalised VIP service and responsible gaming obligations without compromising the player experience?

Consultant Lachtar: The optimal balance comes from embedding responsible gaming within the overall VIP strategy, rather than imposing it as a visible restriction. This requires alignment across the entire management structure, from leadership to compliance and VIP operations.

One lesson learned over time is that directly telling a VIP to slow down their play can break trust. Instead, a more effective approach is to redirect engagement by offering alternative attractions and tailored activities that meet the same standards, such as private dining, exclusive events, wellness experiences or off-site activities.

While hosts remain the visible point of contact, they are supported by management teams using structured frameworks, behavioural indicators, and discreet escalation processes. Technology operates quietly in the background, enabling early intervention without disrupting the experience. When responsible gaming is positioned as long-term player care rather than restriction, it becomes part of personalised service, protecting both the player and the operator while reinforcing trust.

SiGMA News: How is the global VIP ecosystem shifting with changes in regulation, travel trends and spending patterns across Europe and the Middle East?

Consultant Lachtar: The global VIP ecosystem is shifting rapidly, driven by tighter regulation, changing travel behaviour, and more controlled spending patterns across Europe and the Middle East. In Europe, the move away from cash towards fully digital and electronic transactions has reshaped VIP play. While this increases transparency, it also introduces stricter monitoring and flagging, which has reduced spontaneity and pushed some high-value players to seek more flexible jurisdictions.

Travel trends have also evolved. VIPs now plan fewer trips but stay longer, combining gaming with lifestyle, wellness, and family-oriented experiences. Europe continues to appeal for heritage and discretion, while the Middle East attracts players through scale, connectivity, and integrated luxury destinations.

Spending has become more intentional. Operators who adapt to digital financial flows, manage compliance intelligently, and offer consistent cross-border recognition are best positioned in this changing ecosystem.

SiGMA News: What innovations or service models do you believe will define the next generation of VIP programmes worldwide?

Consultant Lachtar: The next generation of VIP programmes will move beyond traditional rewards and evolve into fully integrated lifestyle ecosystems. The focus will be on relevance, exclusivity, and timing rather than volume-based incentives. Programmes will increasingly combine gaming with curated travel, wellness, entertainment and cultural experiences, built around the individual rather than spend.

A key shift will be the need for programmes to be tailored by region and by calendar. VIP experiences should reflect local culture and specific periods such as Ramadan, summer and winter seasons, or major global moments like Christmas and New Year. This seasonal and regional theming makes engagement feel intentional and personal.

Service models will become more fluid and borderless, allowing recognition to follow the player across destinations. This will be reinforced by experiential value, private access, invitation-only events, and partnerships with luxury brands, replacing point accumulation. The strongest programmes will prioritise understated, relationship-led value, focusing on flexibility and meaning rather than promotional tactics.
