Giovanni Cunti, CEO at Europe Gate, delivered clear perspectives on digital finance, MiCA ambitions, and crypto adoption in an exclusive interview at SiGMA Euro-Med 2025 in Malta. His discussion with AIBC’s Nicholas captured Europe Gate’s strategic approach in an evolving landscape, focusing on regulatory compliance and customer trust amidst considerable sector growth.
Strategic rebranding for wider reach
Europe Gate has operated in the European market for more than thirteen years, evolving with a focus on harmonisation and simplicity for clients. “We have been rebranded to Gate. So, pretty much there is going to be only one Gate worldwide. The one that is going to operate with European clients is going to be the Maltese entity, but operating under the brand of Gate,” Cunti explained, highlighting the company’s aim to maintain a unified identity across global markets and regulatory frameworks. This single-brand strategy supports “harmonisation across legislation, the new brand all helping to open gates to the world.”
MiCA licence and regulatory compliance
MiCA licence ambitions sit at the heart of Europe Gate’s roadmap. “We are very close to getting our MiCA licence that will allow us to operate all across the European market and we are there to compete and to play a prominent role in the ever-evolving crypto space ecosystem,” Cunti shared. He stressed that “compliance regulation is at the heart of everything that we do,” underlining the organisation’s full regulation by MFSA in Malta and its commitment to transparent, secure operations.
Discussing the MiCA licence’s significance, Cunti noted, “As soon as we are going to get that licence, we’ll open completely different avenues… the licence will add that credibility that crypto blockchain somehow… has been missing in the past and with the licence we’re there, we’re regulated so you can put your assets, they’re going to be safe with us, you can trade, we can use our custody.” He anticipates an optimistic outlook for the remainder of 2025 and 2026.
Crypto adoption and the European landscape
With Bitcoin at an all-time high, Europe Gate has observed significant momentum within European markets. “Bitcoin is growing, of course, and there are a myriad of other coins moving forward and upwards together with that one. There are new features. We see that there is more and more adoption coming in segments that were not there before,” Cunti remarked. Institutional clients and traditional banking institutions have started diversifying into crypto assets, marking a shift that Europe Gate is keen to facilitate. “We really work hard to have one brand, one name all over the world… We have an incredibly successful onboarding customer flow,” he affirmed, emphasising user experience.
Cunti explained the challenges and rewards in client education around new compliance rules: “At the beginning, it was difficult, but I think that one is paying off. Customers understand that we do this to protect their funds. Level verification is better for everyone, and it takes literally very, very little time.” Once MiCA is obtained, a wider range of niche clients is expected, bolstering trust and credibility in regulated digital finance.
The future of digital finance
Europe Gate’s ambitions reflect Cunti’s extensive track record in financial services, spanning global operations and innovation in e-payments and cryptocurrency. “We’re really looking forward to that. The remainder of 2025 and 26 are going to be very rosy,” he concluded, reinforcing the positive outlook for blockchain compliance and crypto regulation within Europe.
