An Interview with Luxon Pay – Why a Single Wallet Matters in iGaming
Gambling payments are often more fragmented than players realise. A deposit method that works on one site may not work on another. A withdrawal route that feels simple with one operator may take longer elsewhere. For players moving between casinos, sportsbooks, poker sites and live events, that inconsistency can quickly become frustrating.
Luxon Pay, a trusted payments company with roots in poker and a growing presence across iGaming, says this is the problem it was built to solve. The regulated payment solution, used by players across the industry, was founded by people who had spent more time inside gambling companies than in payments, and who had seen the same customer complaints come up again and again.
“Luxon Pay was created by a team of gaming industry experts who, at the time, had more experience managing and working with gambling businesses than payments experience,” Luxon Pay CEO Tom Waters told SiGMA Play, “We identified key payment issues operators we were working with at the time were facing and started to build a product focused on solving those problems.”
Why a Single Wallet Solves the Fragmentation Problem
Luxon Pay did not begin as a broad gambling wallet. Its early focus was on poker sites, particularly the needs of higher-volume players moving money across them and those attending live events.
“Luxon Pay was initially focused on poker as that was the expertise of the management team at Luxon,” Waters said. “We knew VIPs had issues moving money, poker players didn’t want to carry large amounts of cash to play at live events, and they didn’t want to pay high fees.”
That live poker use case helped shape the product. Players travelling to tournaments often need to move significant sums securely and quickly. Waters says Luxon Pay’s service allows players to buy into some live poker events through the app, with major events such as WSOP and EPT cited as examples where players may also be able to see their seat in-app without visiting a cashier or desk at the venue. Most recently, Luxon Pay has gone live with the SPT Poker Tour Malta Special Edition at Portomaso Casino, running 27 May to 1 June 2026, where players can acquire their tournament buy-in directly through the app.
The poker connection remains part of the company’s identity, but Waters says its business has widened.
“Despite the early focus on the poker market, Luxon Pay has been working with sports and casino operators globally for a number of years,” he said. “We are adding more merchants all the time, and this is key for customers.”
For casino and sportsbook players, that merchant network is important because gambling payments are often fragmented. A method that works on one site may fail on another. A card issuer may decline a gambling transaction. A bank transfer may take longer than expected. An e-wallet can sit between the player and multiple operators, giving customers one place to hold funds and move them between gambling accounts.
“Many people want one source of funds for moving money into and out of gambling sites, and they want their deposit to work,” Waters said. “Once a customer has loaded funds to their Luxon Pay wallet, they know they can make a successful transaction with any of Luxon’s integrated merchants.”
Why Payment Timings Still Matter
For players, the biggest question is usually the simplest: why is my withdrawal not instant?
According to Waters, the answer depends partly on where the money is coming from, and partly on where it is going. He says withdrawals from gambling merchants to a Luxon wallet are immediate. “Any withdrawal from a merchant to Luxon is instant,” he said.
The next step, however, can vary. Once money is in the Luxon wallet, a customer may want to keep it there for another gambling site, send it to a bank account, use a card option, or move it by another available payment method. Each route has its own processing time.
A player may see one delay at the operator level, another within casino payments systems, and another at the bank level. The result is that a cash-out can feel opaque, especially when different brands give different estimates.
“For customers withdrawing from Luxon, the withdrawal time often depends on the method used,” Waters explained. “However, we don’t apply any delays to withdrawals from Luxon ourselves. Card transactions are processed instantly, withdrawals to bank accounts are processed on the same day if submitted prior to 12pm; if not, they go next business day.”
Waters says the customer should not be left guessing.
“A customer’s money is a customer’s money, and we look to move it as quickly as possible for them,” he said.
Fees, Security, and Player Protection
Speed is only one part of the payment problem. Fees are another.
Players may accept that some transactions cost money, especially across borders or between currencies, but charges can quickly become a point of tension. Waters says Luxon has been reducing or removing some customer fees in certain markets.
“In terms of customer fees, Luxon is extremely competitively priced compared with most other products in the market,” Waters said. “As a business, we have to apply fees for some services, however recently we’ve begun either removing or reducing customer fees. In a number of markets, customers now have multiple ways to add or remove money from Luxon without paying any fees.”
For gambling customers playing at online casinos, security is just as important as cost. A payment account linked to casino, poker or sportsbook activity may hold meaningful sums of money. It may also be a target for fraud.
Waters says customer balances are held separately from company funds.
“All customer balances are held in segregated safeguarded accounts with relevant authorised banking partners,” he said.
The company also points to two-factor authentication, biometric login, transaction monitoring and technology designed to spot suspicious behaviour.
“Customer accounts are protected with 2FA and biometric authentication,” Waters said. “We use a combination of in-house and third-party technology to monitor accounts that look for potential hacking attempts or other illegal activity.”
What Faster Payments Look Like for Players
Waters says it is now looking beyond its original poker base, with more sportsbook, casino and forex operators being added to its merchant portfolio. He also says the United States is a major focus after receiving a US licence.
“Probably the most exciting development for us is the USA,” Waters said. “We obtained a US license earlier this month, which will allow us to expand into the US market. We will be working with the World Series of Poker next month and are really excited about the opportunities in the US.”
Product changes are also planned. Waters says it is working on improvements to customer flows, including changes to the deposit journey inside merchant cashiers. That may sound technical, but it is the kind of detail players notice when something goes wrong. A smoother cashier can mean fewer failed payments and less confusion at the point of deposit.
The company has also introduced individual customer IBANs for UK and EU customers, which, according to Waters, have proved popular, and plans to expand the service by country availability and functionality. The Luxon Pay Mastercard is another area marked for growth beyond the UK and EEA.
The best experience, Waters concluded, is the one players barely notice: deposits that work, withdrawals that arrive when promised, fees that are clear, and security checks that protect funds without making customers feel locked out of their own money.
As gambling moves further online and across borders, payment companies are becoming an increasingly important part of the player experience.
