Buenos Aires Province begins betting terminal upgrade
The Instituto Provincial de Lotería y Casinos (IPLyC) has launched the first phase of a province-wide upgrade of betting terminals across its official agency network. Partnering with technology supplier B-Gaming, the rollout began this week and will advance district by district.
New provincial rules require digital payment through interoperable QR codes. With the replacement programme, which is closely tied to them, these measures enable stronger financial oversight, curb tax evasion, and enhance monitoring of problem gambling.
Additionally, the modernisation mirrors the country’s extensive push to digitise transactions and to strengthen compliance across the gaming industry.
For operators, QR integration is now a baseline requirement; failure to comply risks penalties. For bettors, transactions become safer, more transparent, and easier to track. Regulators, meanwhile, gain real-time visibility into the gambling ecosystem. Consumer protection in gambling focuses on shielding players from fraud, unfair practices, and addiction risks.
First-phase rollout
Argentina’s gambling regulations in 2026 remain highly decentralised, with each of the 23 provinces and the City of Buenos Aires (CABA) controlling licencing, but new federal bills are introducing stricter national standards on advertising, consumer protection, and illegal online betting.
Additionally, Buenos Aires Province and CABA led with strict compliance, while Mendoza and Corrientes still prohibit online gambling, according to several media reports.
The initial stage covers 21 agencies across five districts: Tres de Febrero, Almirante Brown, Avellaneda, Ituzaingó, and Escobar. New equipment will be installed between 22 and 26 June, and IPLyC will publish the list of affected agency licence numbers for each district.
The upgraded terminals introduce 15-inch touchscreens for clearer ticket visualisation, improved connectivity with external devices, open counter design for easier customer interaction, durable components that reduce downtime, and flexibility to integrate new betting products.
Moreover, operators have reported uninterrupted service, especially during peak hours, thanks to robust hardware. Meanwhile, customers point to faster transactions, clearer tickets, and the open counter layout. Early reactions also highlight interest in new betting products that the terminals could support.
Economic impact
The modernisation programme, valued at over ARS 40 billion ($27 million), is expected to boost employment, tourism, and local revenues while helping land-based gaming remain competitive against online platforms.
PLyC president Gonsalo Atanasof described the initiative as having a “phenomenal impact” on regional economies, particularly in Mar del Plata, Tandil, and Miramar. Framed as a multimodal transformation, the programme positions casinos as 24-hour leisure destinations offering entertainment, dining, and retail.
Training and support
To ensure smooth adoption, IPLyC and B-Gaming have prepared video tutorials, operator manuals, FAQ guides, online training sessions, and a dedicated helpline for technical support. Leadership and strategy
Earlier in June, Atanasof and provincial games director Carlos Gallo met with B-Gaming’s leadership to confirm integration plans. The rollout will continue in stages throughout the second half of June, modernizing point-of-sale infrastructure across the agency network in Buenos Aires province.
