GamblePause Initiative Africa and the Namibia Development Foundation (NAMDEF) have entered a strategic partnership to strengthen responsible gaming efforts across Africa through research, education, policy advocacy and stakeholder engagement.

The agreement brings together two organisations that aim to support safer gambling practices across the continent by working with regulators, gaming operators, policymakers, researchers and local communities. The partnership will focus on developing responsible gaming initiatives that reflect the different regulatory and social environments across African markets.

Focus on research and player protection

Under the partnership, GamblePause Initiative Africa and NAMDEF will work together on research projects, public awareness campaigns and capacity building programmes aimed at improving responsible gambling knowledge. The organisations also plan to promote evidence-based player protection measures that can help strengthen gambling regulation and encourage informed decision making among players.

The collaboration will also support knowledge sharing between industry participants and public institutions. Through educational initiatives and research, the partners intend to provide practical resources that can assist regulators and operators in developing responsible gaming strategies.

The agreement places particular emphasis on prevention, education and early intervention. These areas have become increasingly important as more African countries expand regulated gambling markets and introduce updated gaming legislation.

Stakeholder engagement across Africa

A key part of the partnership involves increasing dialogue between governments, gaming businesses, civil society organisations and responsible gaming advocates.

The two organisations said they will encourage collaboration that supports consumer protection and responsible gambling awareness while promoting the exchange of industry best practices. This includes engaging with the stakeholders on approaches that strengthen player safeguards and improve public understanding of gambling related risks.

By bringing together organisations from Nigeria and Namibia, the partnership also reflects a wider cross border approach to responsible gaming initiatives. Both groups intend to use their regional experience to support sustainable programmes that can be adapted to different African jurisdictions.

Building on existing responsible gaming work

NAMDEF, founded in Namibia by Jerry Muadinohamba, has worked on community development and social impact initiatives. Its experience in community engagement is expected to complement GamblePause Initiative Africa’s responsible gambling advocacy programmes, which have expanded beyond Nigeria in recent years.

GamblePause Initiative Africa has continued to broaden its presence across the continent through partnerships, awareness campaigns and player protection initiatives. Earlier this month, the organisation announced its expansion into Zambia through a collaboration with GamAid Zambia to support responsible gambling education and prevention services.

Supporting a growing gaming market

The partnership comes as Africa’s gaming sector continues to grow, increasing the need for responsible gambling measures alongside market development.

Rather than focusing on a single country, the agreement aims to support continent-wide cooperation by encouraging research, policy development and stakeholder engagement. The organisations said their joint work will prioritise education, prevention and responsible gaming practices while helping create a safer gambling environment for players across Africa.
