Travel guidelines: Getting around Sao Paulo

Navigating Sao Paulo is straightforward when you know the best options available. To ensure delegates can travel easily between hotels and the venue, several transport options are available.

The SiGMA shuttle bus

A dedicated shuttle service will provide convenient round-trip transportation between the Hilton Sao Paulo Morumbi and the Transamerica Expo Center.

  • Day 1: 08:30 – 19:00
  • Days 2 and 3: 09:30 – 19:00

This complimentary shuttle ensures attendees can reach the expo comfortably and on time throughout the summit.

Public transportation and ride-hailing

Ride-hailing apps are widely used in Sao Paulo and are generally considered safer than street taxis. Platforms verify drivers, track journeys via GPS and store ride data for additional security.

Popular options include:

  • Uber
  • 99
  • inDrive

Public transport connections near the venue include:

  • Santo Amaro Metro Station (Line 5 Lilás) – approximately 600 metres away
  • CPTM Santo Amaro Train Station (Line 9 Esmeralda) – approximately 600 metres away

Multiple bus routes also run along nearby avenues including Av. João Dias and Av. Roberto Marinho.

Essential travel information

What to pack

April in Sao Paulo falls within the tropical season, meaning conditions can shift quickly between warm sunshine and sudden rain showers.

To stay comfortable during the summit, consider packing breathable clothing including a light jacket or extra layer for cooler evenings. We also recommend bringing comfortable footwear for exploring the expo floor and compact umbrella or rain jacket. Many networking events also follow specific dress codes. For example, formal attire may be required for gala dinners and awards ceremonies, while certain venue visits require closed-toe shoes for safety. Always consult the event agenda for specific dress requirements.

Before travelling, it’s worth preparing a few practical details to ensure a smooth trip.

Power plugs and electricity

Brazil uses Type N and Type C electrical outlets with round pins. While some hotels may provide adaptors, it’s recommended to bring a universal travel adapter for your devices.

Free WiFi will be available throughout the conference venue for all delegates and exhibitors. However, because some mobile operators require a CPF (Brazilian tax ID) to activate SIM cards, many visitors prefer to use an international travel eSIM. SiGMA partners with eSIMATIC, which offers discounted packages specifically for event attendees.

Currency

The official currency is the Brazilian Real. Credit cards are widely accepted across the city, however it’s helpful to carry a small amount of cash for minor purchases. Always use ATMs located in secure areas such as shopping malls or hotels and inform your bank before travelling to avoid unexpected card blocks.

Safety information

Like any large global city, Sao Paulo requires visitors to remain aware of their surroundings. Avoid displaying expensive jewellery or electronics and use ride-hailing apps rather than unmarked taxis. Keep bags close and valuables secure and use mobile phones discreetly in public areas.

Emergency contacts

If you encounter an emergency during your visit, the following numbers may be useful:

  • 190 – Police
  • 192 – Ambulance
  • 193 – Fire Department
  • 996 – Coastguard
  • 136 – Health Authority
  • Visitors from the United States can contact the Embassy of the United States in Brazil at +55-61-3312-7000 if assistance is required.

Many travellers, including citizens of EU member states, do not require a visa for short stays in Brazil ranging from 30 to 180 days.

If you need documentation to support a visa application, the organisers of BiS SiGMA South America 2026 can provide an official invitation letter upon request. Always check the latest visa requirements through official government sources before travelling.
