The World Poker Tour (WPT) will return to Cambodia this August with the launch of the WPT Cambodia Passport to the World Championship, a major poker festival set to take place at NagWorld from 12 to 24 August. The series is expected to attract players from across Asia and beyond, offering a packed tournament schedule and qualification routes to the season-ending WPT World Championship in Las Vegas.
70 events scheduled across 12 days
The festival will feature 70 events over nearly two weeks, providing a wide range of tournament options for both professional and recreational players. The schedule includes more than US$1 million in guaranteed prize pools, making it one of the largest poker series in the region this year.
According to WPT, satellites will be accessible for any event with a guaranteed prize pool, providing players with more chances to gain entrance into important competitions at reduced buy-in prices. Additionally, the festival aims to pave the way for athletes who want to compete in the esteemed WPT World Championship later this year.
Main event offers $500k guarantee
The highlight of the series will be the WPT Cambodia Main Event, which carries a buy-in of US$1,300 and a guaranteed prize pool of US$500,000.
The Main Event is expected to draw a strong field of regional and international players, continuing Cambodia’s growing role as a destination for major live poker tournaments. The substantial guarantee is likely to make it one of the most closely watched events on the schedule.
Alongside the Main Event, players will have access to a variety of side events and specialised formats, contributing to a diverse tournament programme throughout the festival.
Route to the WPT World Championship
The WPT Cambodia Passport to the World Championship’s link to the international WPT circuit is one of its main features. Players will have the chance to earn a spot in the WPT World Championship, which will be held at Wynn Las Vegas in December.
WPT Chief Executive Officer Adam Pliska said the Cambodian stop offers players both competitive opportunities and access to one of the region’s leading poker destinations.
“The WPT Cambodia Passport to the World Championship provides players with an incredible opportunity to compete while enjoying one of the region’s premier poker destinations,” Pliska said.
He added that the tournament schedule and qualification opportunities would help players pursue a place at the WPT World Championship.
“In addition to an action-packed tournament schedule, we are thrilled to offer players a pathway to earn their way to the WPT World Championship,” he said.
Busy second half
The Cambodia festival forms part of WPT’s broader Season 24 calendar. Following the stop in Phnom Penh, the tour will head to Sydney for WPT Australia, which will be hosted at The Star Sydney in September.
The season will then conclude with the WPT World Championship in December at Wynn Las Vegas, one of the flagship events on the international poker calendar.
By linking regional tournaments with the year-end championship, WPT continues to expand opportunities for players across different markets while strengthening its global tournament network. The Cambodia stop is expected to play an important role in that strategy, bringing together players from multiple countries for one of the region’s largest live poker gatherings of the year.
