The generic Asian slot theme has been heavily overused over the years. Perhaps not as much as some even more common themes but seeing another slot like this rarely impresses me. So, does Mystical Dragons make up for its familiar theme with strong gameplay, and can it stand out from the new Reflex Gaming slot games released recently? While the graphics in Mystical Dragons are decent and meet the standards of new online casino platforms, the overall design is fairly average. The reels feature plenty of bright gold against a deep red background, which changes to purple during the free spins, with classic Asian-themed symbols like dragons, lions, and phoenixes, alongside Latin letters styled to resemble Chinese characters.

The soundtrack is similarly energetic and uplifting, but also quite generic. The animations are well-crafted and fit the theme, though they lack any distinctive personality. Overall, Mystical Dragons looks polished enough, but its design feels familiar and conventional.

Mystical Dragons has an RTP of 95.5%, which is slightly below average for a modern slot. It’s not too low, but most players still expect to see at least the 96% mark crossed to consider it fair. Dragon Collector Wilds

Dragon symbols act as wilds and substitute for all regular pay symbols, but also act as Collector symbols, awarding the displayed prizes of any Egg or Coin symbols that land alongside them. They can only appear in the central position of the middle reel.

Every Dragon symbol that lands reduces an unlock counter, regardless of whether any Eggs or Coin symbols appear at the same time, and reaching certain milestones permanently unlocks special Dragon variants, which are then added to the center reel position. Beyond the standard Dragon Wild, there are three special variants:

• Boost Dragon – Unlocked after 5 Dragon symbols land and identified by blue flames. When it appears alongside Eggs or Coins, it fires boost fireballs at one or more of them. Any Egg that is hit turns into a Coin, while any Coin that is hit increases in value.
• Multi Dragon – Unlocked after a further 10 Dragon symbols land and identified by pink flames. When it lands alongside Eggs or Coins, it applies a multiplier of up to 4x to all visible Egg and Coin prizes before collecting them.
• Respin Dragon – Unlocked after a further 15 Dragon symbols land and identified by red flames. When it lands alongside Eggs or Coins, those symbols are held in place while the remaining reels respin. Respins continue until no new Egg or Coin symbols land or the reels are completely filled. All collected prizes are then awarded.

Eggs and Coin Symbols

Golden Egg symbols and four differently colored Coin symbols each carry a certain prize. As I mentioned above, Egg and Coin prizes are only awarded when a Dragon lands at the same time and collects them. The colored Coins represent one of four fixed jackpot prizes:

• Green Coin – Mini Jackpot
• Blue Coin – Minor Jackpot
• Purple Coin – Major Jackpot
• Red Coin – Grand Jackpot

Money Bags

Two Money Bags are displayed above the reels, and each time a Dragon lands, progress is added to one or both of them. A bag may grow as progress is added, and it can open at random to award free spins.

However, the visible size of a Money Bag doesn’t affect its chance of opening; it’s just a visual detail. A standard Money Bag awards 6 free spins, while a special red Money Bag awards 12 free spins. After opening, the bag resets to its smallest size and may change color.

Guaranteed Dragon Features

At the start of some spins, the Gong Man can randomly send a wave of fire across the reels, guaranteeing that a Dragon symbol lands alongside one or more Egg or Coin symbols. At the end of other spins, he strikes his gong and nudges the center reel up or down until a Dragon moves into position. The Dragon then collects any eligible Egg or Coin prizes on the reels.

Free Spins

Free Spins are awarded when a Money Bag opens during the base game. The Dragon that triggers the feature remains locked in the center position throughout the duration of the free spins. On each spin, it may change into any Dragon variant already unlocked in the base game, allowing different Dragon abilities to activate during the feature.

Each spin also adds progress to one or both Money Bags. When a bag opens, it awards extra free spins, resets to its smallest size, and possibly changes color. Each Money Bag can open multiple times during the feature. Any progress remaining at the end of free spins carries over to the base game. The feature is played with the same bet and paylines as the triggering spin.

Golden Bet

Golden Bet can be toggled on for 1.5x the standard bet per spin. When enabled, it increases the chance of a Dragon landing, resulting in more frequent collections and bonus triggers, and guarantees that the right Money Bag is red and therefore awards 12 free spins whenever it opens.

Activating Golden Bet doesn’t change the current size or progress of either Money Bag. Golden Bet also doesn’t increase the paytable values or the prizes displayed on Egg and Coin symbols.

Bonus Buy

By selecting the Bonus Buy button, you can buy three different levels of bonus by purchasing one of three special Money Bags. This is at the cost of a varying multiple of the selected base bet size.

• For 75x the bet – The standard money bag can award between 6 and 12 free spins.
• For 150x the bet – The red money bag can award between 12 and 24 free spins.
• For 100x the bet – The mystery money bag can either be standard or red, awarding between 6 and 24 free spins.
