From São Paulo to paradise: A Retreat to remember

The SiGMA Affiliate Retreat delivered an unforgettable few days of networking, collaboration, and a little island magic for 50 top-tier affiliates. And after a busy week at the BiS SiGMA South America summit, our guests have earned it!

Start as you mean to go on, we always say. The journey began in the exclusive private Ambaar VIP lounge,  before boarding a private plane for a midday flight from São Paulo to Florianópolis. Forget stale peanuts and broken headsets – this flight came with a glass of sparkling wine and luxurious comfort.

I think you’ll agree – this is how all retreats should begin – no lines, no waiting, just comfort, class, and convenience.

Following check-in, there were a couple of hours of downtime to get settled. Guests were able to indulge in hotel facilities that included a top-notch gym, pool, spa, and bar – although not necessarily in that order –  before heading off to a beachfront dinner at Pier 54 feeling pampered and relaxed.

The next day, it was off to Barra da Lagoa, a pretty little fishing village set on the mouth of a tidewater channel that flows in and out of the island’s lagoon. The village also houses Projeto Tamar, a conservation centre for sea turtles.

Following a welcome reception from the Cultura Radical team, it was all aboard for a leisurely trip out to Campeche Island – home to an ecological sanctuary and an archaeological site listed by the National Historical and Artistic Heritage Institute. An oyster tasting was held, where guests sampled fresh and steamed oysters cultivated in Florianópolis. Later, lunch was served on the boat, with plenty of time before heading back for a cooling dip in Santa Catarina’s famously clear waters. Water sports, including snorkelling, stand-up paddleboarding, and kayaking, were also available.

Even with the summer season gently winding down, it was postcard-perfect weather, with balmy sunshine and blue skies embodying true island cliches.

There’s nothing like being out on the sea for working up an appetite. Dinner at La Carve was paired with live jazz and exceptional wines, after which guests headed to The Roof Nightclub for drinks and dancing.

The last day had just enough time to squeeze in some last-minute shopping and lunch at the Feirarte Beira Mar and Osly Restaurant before heading back to the hotel for check-out.

The event may be over, but that’s no excuse for the fun to stop. Private plane? Of course. And one last drink to ease departure blues.
