SiGMA hosted an “invite only” retreat at Flo Skypool with stakeholders from all sectors of the iGaming ecosystem in attendance to network, share ideas and build relationships on the stunning coastline of Malta.
Held on Tuesday 28 April from 19:00 to 23:00, the Gaming Meetup St. Julian’s was endorsed by ThunderSpin and hosted by SiGMA, with support from AGS and AIBC. The gathering formed part of a wider effort to strengthen industry connections ahead of upcoming global summits, including SiGMA’s next major stop in Rome.
Premium networking setting
The event, with a curated guest list including operators, platform providers, aggregators, regulators, game studios, payment providers, and compliance specialists, took place at the elevated Flo Skypool. The dress code for the evening was boho-chic, aligning with the venue’s relaxed yet premium atmosphere. The event was designed to be as informal as possible to foster natural networking and free-flowing conversation rather than a series of presentations and panels.
Malta, as the iGaming hub, made it the perfect venue for this event. It is already one of the world’s top operational hubs for the iGaming industry because Malta remains a central location for the industry’s three key pillars: online casino operators, sports betting operators, and gaming infrastructure providers. St. Julian’s provided the ideal venue for cross-functional partnerships and engagements.
Industry themes and discussions
As part of their program, participants had the opportunity to discuss newer trends that are emerging as regulating gaming and the regulatory gaming software platforms, and how responsible gaming regulations focus on how compliance and efficiency are now interrelated, and how everyone in the industry is now thinking about and developing sustainable, long-term growth models as the industry matures quickly.
There was also a great deal of discussion at the meetup about working together across verticals in the gaming industry. As gaming ecosystems have become more integrated, companies continue to look for better alignment among all elements required to operate a successful gaming business, including the supplier, the gaming software developer, and the payment processor. This meetup allowed the various groups to have informal discussions, share best practices, and identify opportunities for future cooperation.
Global outlook and market alignment
The gathering of representatives from numerous jurisdictions also reinforced the industry’s international character. One aspect that highlighted Malta’s duality as a regulatory and commercial centre was the number of diverse attendees who were able to reconnect with past business contacts and create new ones ahead of key industry timelines.
The venue for the evening, Flo Skypool, helped create this distinctiveness and provided great views over the St Julian’s Bay area. The combination of a relaxed setting in a premium location supported the view that the event’s overall purpose was to facilitate high-quality interaction among attendees seeking to network and do business.
Strengthening industry connections
The gaming industry continues to advance through technological advances, regulatory changes, and shifts in consumer behaviour; similarly, the Gaming Meetup (St. Julian’s) facilitates dialogue among stakeholders across the gaming ecosystem in this ever-changing environment. At this event, there was a clear demonstration of the desire for face-to-face meetings, even though the gaming industry is very digital.
As we build momentum for SiGMA’s events in Rome and beyond, this meetup served as both a way for industry stakeholders to connect and to check in on and strategise about opportunities available to them moving forward.
The gaming industry stakeholders attending the meetup left feeling that their relationships are much stronger than before, and that there is enthusiasm to continue conversations with one another, which continues to build Malta’s reputation as the premier location for global gaming stakeholders to convene.
