Pragmatic Play has reaffirmed its pledge to the Canadian gaming sector by entering Alberta’s newly regulated iGaming market, positioning itself at the forefront of one of North America’s most anticipated launches.

Alberta officially launched its regulated iGaming market on Monday, under a dual-structure system managed by the Alberta Gaming, Liquor and Cannabis Commission (AGLC) and the Alberta iGaming Corporation (AiGC). This framework emphasises consumer protection, responsible play, and the allocation of revenue to social programmes, making Pragmatic Play’s entry both strategic and compliant.

Extensive portfolio of premium content

As a leading content supplier to the global iGaming industry, Pragmatic Play offers a wide range of premium slots, including recent releases such as Fury of Anubis, Big Bass Blast, and the popular Gates of Olympus series. Its certification in Alberta also covers its acclaimed live casino portfolio, featuring blackjack, baccarat, roulette, and immersive game shows. Additionally, Pragmatic Play’s entry into Alberta is backed by advanced technology that streamlines operations and enhances player engagement.

In a single API integration, for instance, operators can access Pragmatic Play’s entire multi-product portfolio as slots, live casino, and game shows through one seamless connection, reducing onboarding time and technical overhead. This ensures that Pragmatic Play is setting a benchmark for operational efficiency and player engagement. By merging scalability, personalisation, and compliance, this reinforces Pragmatic Play’s competitiveness and positioning against rivals such as Evolution and Play’n Go.

Alberta’s market opportunity

Pragmatic Play enters with an established presence, having already partnered with tier‑one brands in Ontario to deliver award‑winning content to players across the region.

Alberta’s much-awaited regulated iGaming market is forecast to generate between CAD0.26-0.58 billion ($183-$410 million) in its first year, with long-term predictions reaching CAD1.5 billion ($1.06 billion) in annual gross gaming revenue (GGR) by year 10. This places the province as one of the country’s most lucrative provinces for online gambling, even surpassing Ontario in per-adult spend, according to several media outlets.

Pragmatic Play’s latest advancement enables it to increase its North American growth strategy. It can also continue to expand its partnerships across regulated markets by delivering premium multi-product content via a single API integration.

Industry perspective

“Alberta represents an exciting new adventure for regulated iGaming in Canada, and Pragmatic Play is delighted to be among the first suppliers bringing premium entertainment to operators and their players from day one,” said Sharon McHugh, Director of PR at Pragmatic Play, highlighting the significance of the expansion in a statement. “Building on our strong momentum in Ontario, this expansion reinforces Pragmatic Play’s long‑term commitment to the Canadian market. We look forward to working closely with partners across the province as the market continues to develop.”

Alberta’s iGaming market opened on 13 July with a highly competitive field, with about 46 operators and 50 brands registered, including global leaders like Bet365, DraftKings, FanDuel, BetMGM, Caesars, and Ontario-born brands such as Betty. Casino-focused operators are expected to dominate long-term revenue, while sports betting brands face tougher competition.
