South Africa's growing iGaming industry needs talent development

The South African iGaming industry is booming, but there is a need for a push in growing talent when it comes to recruitment, as 10bet HR Manager Nicole Daniels told SiGMA News that “experienced talent within the South African market is very limited”.

Need for more talent and upskilling in South Africa’s iGaming market

Speaking during SiGMA Africa 2026 and having been asked what sort of challenges HR teams may face with regard to recruitment in the market, Daniels said that everyone in the growing regional market is facing the same challenge, as there is plenty of competition and yet a small pool of experienced talent.

She remarked that companies therefore end up in something of a “tug of war” for the available talent.

With that in mind, she commented that there is a need to build new talent and develop “training power plants” where talent can be upskilled at an early stage in people’s career development, such as just coming out of high school, where they can easily integrate into the industry.

“There is so much room for growth in this industry,” Daniels said as she spoke of the potential in the market for people to come into the industry and make an impact.

“This industry has so many divisions and factions… If we can get the talent and the skill to take an interest, know what it’s about, and want to actually come into this industry, then their potential for growth is exponential.”

Speaking specifically with regard to 10bet, Daniels said that as a company with an international perspective and which has operations globally, it aims to recruit locally when it comes to individual markets. “So from a South African perspective, we are all about empowering South Africa,” she commented.

“We want to hire South African talent to run the South African hub, and we’re supported majorly from our European partners, counterparts, and ownerships. From a recruitment point of view, we have a vast team globally, and the cultures are interesting.”

Daniels said that 10bet is very intentional in its recruitment. “Our culture is very important to us… So as much as skill expertise is at the top of the list and top of mind, how you fit into the culture is also exceptionally important, because that’s what makes or breaks longevity of a workforce.”

Wider industry interest in South Africa

The wider global iGaming industry has gradually become more interested and keen on South Africa as a market with considerable growth potential, as the country has established itself as a gaming standout on the African continent.

Legislative and regulatory efforts have helped to highlight this, and events such as SiGMA Africa, which was hosted in South Africa in 2026 and will also be hosted in its capital, Cape Town, in 2027, help to bring together key industry figures and leaders to collaborate and further explore the potential that is there.

Cape Town calls. From 15–17 February 2027, SiGMA Africa unites regulators, operators, affiliates and investors for two days of networking, innovation and industry-defining conversations. Join the people shaping Africa’s gaming future.
