Day 01 of SiGMA Africa 2026, 04 March 2026, brought global football prestige to the heart of the expo floor. In partnership with Betora, the Betora VIP Lounge became one of the most talked-about highlights of the summit, blending sporting excellence with iGaming innovation in a way that energised delegates from across the continent.

Hosted at the Grand Arena, GrandWest in Cape Town, the presence of football legends Christian Karembeu, Claude Makélélé, Ludovic Giuly, Pierre Issa and Robert Pirès underscored the growing synergy between sport, entertainment and gaming and marked a standout success for Betora’s presence at the event.

A grand welcome

The experience began with an exclusive guided tour of the expo floor, offering the football legends a firsthand look at Africa’s rapidly evolving gaming ecosystem. The tour seamlessly transitioned into the Betora Lounge, where delegates gathered for live interviews, autograph sessions and jersey signings, before concluding with dedicated media lounge interviews.

A highlight of the day was an interview featuring Betora CEO Hamed Rahimi alongside 1998 FIFA World Cup winner Christian Karembeu, representing the players. The conversation bridged sport and technology, highlighting parallels between elite performance in football and innovation-driven success in iGaming.

A star-studded line-up

Few industry events can boast a guest list of this calibre. The Betora Lounge welcomed, Christian Karembeu, World Cup and European Championship winner, and two-time UEFA Champions League champion. Claude Makélélé, the midfielder who redefined his position with titles spanning Real Madrid and Chelsea. Ludovic Giuly, a Champions League winner with Barcelona and one of Europe’s most high-impact wingers of his era. Pierre Issa, a proud Bafana Bafana representative who competed in two FIFA World Cups. Robert Pirès, Arsenal “Invincible” and World Cup winner, recognised among football’s all-time greats.

The appearances drew significant crowds, with delegates eager to engage in conversations that spanned football, leadership, discipline and global brand building.

Meet-and-greet

Delegates had the opportunity to connect personally with the legends, creating memorable moments that amplified the event’s atmosphere.

For Betora, the partnership reinforced its positioning as a forward-thinking platform provider capable of merging entertainment and enterprise. By aligning with globally respected athletes, the company demonstrated how iGaming brands can elevate their visibility while maintaining relevance within regional markets, particularly Africa’s rapidly expanding ecosystem.

The initiative also reflected a broader trend within the industry, that experiential engagement now plays a crucial role in building brand trust and loyalty. The Betora Lounge proved that when sport, storytelling and technology intersect, the impact resonates further than the expo floor.
